Who whe are

Friends of Rimkieta Foundation (in Spanish “Fundación Amigos de Rimkieta” - FAR) began in the autumn of 2004 with the aim of contributing to the economic and social development of the suburb. Hand in hand with Luis and Montse Riba, Juan Carlos Vázquez-Dodero, José Vidal, Mercè Casanovas, Fernando Infiesta and María Vázquez-Dodero, we embarked on the increasingly passionate task to ease the life of the neighbours in the suburb of Rimkieta, that occupies around 40 square kilometres wiht only 60.000 inhabitants.

Our spirit of indefinite permanence and total commitment to the people of Rimkieta takes its form in the development of various activities and initiatives oriented around covering the basic necessities and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.

We started out as Friends of Rimkieta Association and were constituted in 2007 as a Foundation.

The Friends of Rimkieta Foundation is managed by a group of business and professionals.

Our mission

The Friends of Rimkieta Foundation (FAR) has as its mission the improvement of the living conditions of the suburb of Rimkieta, in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso; principally its women and children, and especially in relation to its education, nutrition, health, and the social and professional promotion of women.

A philosophy of action based on a completely business mentality for the implementation of solutions in accord with the social, cultural and environmental realities of the area.

Principles of conduct

All the people who form part of the Foundation share a philosophy and values that determine our ‘modus operandi’ and reflect the essence of the FAR. The activities of the FAR are governed by the following principles that fulfis faithfully:

“UN EURO HERE, UN EURO IN BURKINA”

Each euro donated is fully used to the projects carried out in Rimkieta. That is possible due to the fact that all institutional and infrastructure expenses are fully supported by the patrons of the Foundation and a patrimonial fund made with donations specifically for this purpose..

“TO PERSEVERE MORE THAN TO COVER, PERMANENT COMMITMENT”

FAR has an aim of indefinite continuance and full compromise with Rimkieta’s neighborhood and its people, and focuses its activities only in the neighborhood. The conditions of extremme poverty in which the inhabitants of Rimkieta live make it imossible to predict when the suburb could be considered "developed". In the face of this situation, our maxim is “continue”.

“WE ARE IN CONTROL OF THE RESULTS”

FAR has a rigorous work method:

  • Every project is selected by the Board.
  • The annual budget is revised and approved every three months by the Board.
  • The information from the projects to Spain is weekly and we control its budget every month.
  • The manager lives in Ouagadougou and the Board travel frequently to Burkina Faso.

“WE WANT TO BE A SIMPLE ORGANIZATION”

The FAR dedicates itself wholly to the economic and social development of the suburb of Rimkieta and aims to personally attend to the necessities of each of its inhabitants.

“local human team”

FAR aims to provide the employment and develops its employees in Rimkieta, which makes us hire exclusively local people, with support of someone from Spain.

“we report promptly and truthfully”

The FAR regularly reports on the progress of its projects to the Friends, Sponsors and Patrons who collaborate on the development of Rimkieta and its inhabitants.

“we look for professional and committed volunteers”

The salaried infrastructure of the FAR must be minimal.  We encourage and accept professional help in all the needed areas, always within the scope of clear and concrete objectives for each volunteer.

Human team

The all FAR human team in Rimkieta, 26 people, is burkinabé and is managed by responsibles from Burkina as well. It is the FAR's aim the permanent training and improvement of its employees, without whose work and dedication the FAR woul not be possible.
